Unanimous Declaration of the People of Alberta

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of God Almighty entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience has shown, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.--Such has been the patient sufferance of Albertans; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government.

Without excusing the record of abuse inflicted upon Alberta by previous Prime Ministers, the history of the present Prime Minister of Canada (Justin Trudeau), is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over Alberta. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.

He has forced Assent to Laws, the most unwholesome and contrary to the public good of Albertans.

He has utterly neglected to attend to the economic devastation of Alberta caused by the global downturn in crude oil prices.

He has refused to approve resource development permits for the economic accommodation of Albertans, unless those people would relinquish the right to continue unfettered resource production, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.

He has used the pretended COVID19 crisis to call together ad-hoc and diminutive legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures, while increasing his invasions on the rights of the people.

He has endeavoured to prevent stability of Alberta; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Orderly Entrance to Canada; refusing to enforce laws that would turn back illegal migrants to their country of origin, and allowing unsustainable numbers of migrants dependent on social welfare to flood our country.

He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing to waive parliamentary privilege in cases where he is alleged to have broken Federal Ethics laws, or where it is suspected that he has committed violations of the Criminal Code of Canada.

He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, including a pretended Ministry of Middle Class Prosperity, and is sending 500 new Federal Police Officers to harass our people, and seize our Firearms.

He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Forces of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police without the Consent of our people.

He has affected to neuter the Military through lack of funding and alien political ideology, while he continues to ignore and abuse our veterans.

He has combined with foreign actors to subject us to an international jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:

For using public funds to control the media in order to wage distribute government propaganda & disinformation against its own citizens:

For protecting the abusers of our indigenous populations, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Indigenous Inhabitants of Alberta:

For cutting off our Trade with the United States of America and India:

For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:

For now depriving us, in order to achieve a political outcome, of the benefits of Trial by impartial Jury:

For using Human Rights Commissions to try many of our people for pretended offences:

For abolishing the Constitutional Division of powers between provinces and the federal government, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into our Colony:

For taking away our Charter Rights, abolishing our most valuable Freedoms, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:

For nullifying the will of our own Legislatures, and declaring federally-appointed judges invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.

He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging Economic War against us.

He has plundered our resources, blocked trade access to and through Canada’s Coasts, impoverished our towns through unemployment, and destroyed the lives of our people.

He is at this time transporting thousands upon thousands of unskilled foreign migrants to Alberta, in order to render our vote obsolete, thus completing the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.

While protecting, rewarding and enriching convicted terrorists, he has abandoned our fellow Citizens taken Captive in foreign lands to languish in prison devoid of the international standards habeas corpus, or to fall themselves to ruthless and barbaric forms of execution at their hands.  He has also colluded with communist regimes, namely China; to undermine the confidence of our international allies, most notably the United States of America.  No greater example of this behavior can be found in his alignment with China in response to that nations’ assault on international free markets through the manufactured COVID19 crisis, and willingness to partner with a Chinese State Firm on our 5G infrastructure.

He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, including railway blockades, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the communist activist acting under the guise of the environment or racial agitation, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.

He has illegally banned the ownership of over 1500 models of firearms, all lawfully acquired, using an antiquated and highly dubious relic of imperial process known only to Canada and the United Kingdom.  This action, along with his continued interference with our lawful ability to be armed for the purposes of self-defence is a continued violation of the English Bill of Rights of 1689.  According to that Bill, which cannot be legally altered or revoked, his entire government is illegitimate and is ruling unlawfully.

He has engaged in acts of racism and the abuse of women, while continuing to lecture and gaslight Albertans about the exact same behavior.  Whether it was the National Energy Program of his father before him, or the legacy of previous Prime Ministers who have heaped injustice upon Alberta, or who continuously pandered to a confederation dominated by Ontario and Quebec, a change of Prime Minister will not solve this problem. 

Inequality and the abuse of Alberta is woven into the fabric of Canada.

Moreover, as four Conservative Members of Parliament recently pointed out:

1) Alberta is not, and has never been, an equal participant in Confederation: 

At a time when commerce and industry was beginning to flourish in Eastern Canada, Alberta and Saskatchewan were not yet a part of Confederation.

Before joining Confederation in 1905, Alberta and Saskatchewan were part of an enormous expanse which Canada called the North-West Territories. This land was bought by the Canadian government from Hudson’s Bay Company in 1868. Representatives from the North-West Territories including First Nations, Métis, Inuit, and settlers were not consulted.

The acquisition of the North-West Territories by Canada was thrust upon its people; not in partnership with them.

2) Alberta is a culturally distinct region, but this has not been recognized:

Throughout Alberta’s history, we can see several distinct cultural themes. A struggle against a colonial government, a desire for individual freedom, a willingness and drive to achieve personal economic liberty; a deep connection and respect for our land; and an economy unique to other areas of Canada. 

3) Alberta is physically and structurally isolated from Canada’s economic and political power structures.

For many in the East, Alberta is a place to which they have little connection. For Canada’s political class who frequently travel the country, Alberta is simply a long stretch of time on a flight between Toronto and Vancouver.

On a per capita basis, Alberta is the most underrepresented province in both the Senate and House of Commons. This is one of the key sources of anger within Alberta. While having twice the population of all four Atlantic provinces combined, Alberta has barely more than half the Senators of either New Brunswick or Nova Scotia. Every successful democratic federation in the world has a democratic upper legislative body with some measure of equality for its sub-national states. Canada is a notable exception to this principle of equality, being a major country in the democratic world where some of its sub-national states hold less representation than others, despite having a larger population. 

As Alberta contributes a disproportionate amount of wealth to Ottawa relative to what is returned, and is under-represented in Ottawa’s political institutions, it should be obvious to Canadians why Albertans are frustrated: taxation without representation.

4) Alberta is treated as a colony, rather than an equal partner in Confederation.

Alberta has been a lucrative source of wealth for Canada.  Between 1981 and 2018, Albertans have sent more than $1 trillion to Ottawa in revenue and received only $650 billion in return. That is a transfer deficit of more than $400 billion.  Yet other provinces, such as Quebec and British Columbia, block our ability to deliver our resources to international markets, with the open approval of the Federal Government.

In every stage of this Oppression, We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prime Minister whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our Canadian brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our economy and culture here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.

We, therefore, the Citizens of Alberta, in General Agreement, United, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of Alberta, solemnly publish and declare, That Alberta is, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent amongst the nations of the world; that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the Government of Canada, the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and Canada, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent Nation, Alberta has full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.
